Frisco to Consider Banning Tobacco in Public Parks

The Frisco City Council Tuesday is expected to consider banning smoking and the possession of tobacco products from all city parks.

The proposition has a lot of people talking, so we headed over to Frisco Commons to talk with parents about the idea. All of the parents we spoke with at Frisco Commons think tobacco products should be banned.

"I think it's a good idea because we have kids that come out here and play," said parent Carrie Taylor. "We have the adults who choose not to smoke, so I think it's good to be in an environment where our kids can play safely."

Many of them explained what they would say to those who think they have a right to smoke in city parks.

"I think it's a great idea because people are at the parks for kids and there is no reason to have tobacco around the kids," said Meagan Theilen. "I just think there is a time and a place for everything. They have their own rights, but there is a reason you can't do it until your 18."

"I would probably say there should be designated areas, like, that are far away from where children and parents can be exposed to it from secondhand smoke," said Taylor.

The proposed restrictions would also include chewing tobacco and e-cigarettes.
