Frisco Hiring Firefighters, Building Fire Stations to Keep Up With Growth

The Frisco Fire Department is hiring 11 new firefighters in 2017 to keep up with the city's population boom.

Two fire stations are currently in the design phase and will open in two years. Voters approved the fire stations in the 2015 bond election.

One station will serve the Rockhill area, which is located on the north side of the city, near U.S. Highway 380 on the border of Prosper.

The other station will serve the Five Billion Dollar Mile, which includes the home of the Dallas Cowboys, The Star at Frisco.

"It's something we constantly keep our eye on because it's constantly evolving," said Capt. Kevin Haines. "We're trying to build stations as the area is growing, not necessarily after it's already done. We know exactly what we need."

Haines said Frisco is building a new fire station every three years.

He said there are between 3,000 and 5,000 homes under construction or development at any given time.

"We're doing it based on data, based on call volume, based on what buildings are going up in the area," said Haines.

Haines said at least 18 firefighters will be needed to staff the new fire stations.
