Fort Worth Police Officers Recognized for Returning Stolen Dog to Owners

The Fort Worth police officers who returned a stolen dog to his rightful owners last month will be recognized at a City Council meeting Tuesday.

Police said Monday that a family burglarized May 7 said several items were taken from their home on Clarke Avenue including Petey, their 4-month old collie/heeler mix.

Detectives followed leads to a home on nearby Columbus Avenue, police said. As detectives showed the homeowner a photograph of the missing dog, out walked Petey through a screen door.

Police said Petey was instantly recognized and taken into custody by the officers. Police said they even managed to get a burglary confession from someone at the home before they left.

Fort Worth police then reunited the family with Petey and several of their missing possessions.

On Tuesday, at the 3 p.m. pre-council meeting, the City Council will recognize all of the police department officers and detectives who participated in the dog's return.
