A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday after he ran from officers and was found hiding in a car with a gun, police say.
It happened about 4 p.m. in the 5200 block of East Berry Street.
A large crowd angry at police gathered at the scene to protest the shooting. Many said they did not trust the police account of what happened.
Officers had pulled over a car with three people inside, police Sgt. Chris Daniels said.
Two of them – one who had a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon – ran, while the third remained with the car and spoke with police, he said.
Officers discovered one man, 17-year-old Jevon Monroe, hiding underneath a vehicle and arrested him without incident. Police said another man -- the one with the warrant -- ran to a nearby car where he was hiding inside, Daniels said.
Police said the man, who has not been identified, was hiding inside a car.

Officers gave verbal commands, but the man did not comply, police said. The man made an "overt action" that placed officers in "fear for their lives" when they attempted to break the glass of the vehicle, police said.
Three of the officers shot at the man, with at least one striking him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nobody else was hurt.
Police said evidence collected at the scene "supports that the suspect fired" a weapon that was found in the car, but testing would be done to verify it.
Tensions between police and the crowd remained high for much of the night. Dozens of officers guarded the crime scene and came face to face with hundreds of residents calling for justice.
City council member Gyna Bivens called on the department to release body camera footage to show exactly what happened.
It was the fourth officer-involved shooting in Fort Worth in eight days.
