Fort Worth Independent School District has announced Saturday that Dr. Joel D. Boyd is the lone finalist to be the next District superintendent.
"Dr. Boyd is a very competent educator who has experienced successes in closing achievement gaps and improving student academic performance,” said Fort Worth ISD Board President Norman Robbins. “He will be very visible in the community, and has the ability to make people feel comfortable when meeting with them. We are excited to have him join our Team of Ten."
Texas law requires school boards to wait 21 days before offering candidates contracts. If Boyd is selected as Fort Worth ISD's next top administrator, he will become the twenty-fifth superintendent in the district's 133 year history.
Boyd, 35, previously served as superintendent of the Santa Fe Public School District in Santa Fe, New Mexico since August, 2012. Prior to working in New Mexico, Boyd served as an assistant superintendent in Philadelphia.
Boyd received his doctorate through Harvard University’s Urban Superintendents Program in 2012. He holds two masters degrees – one in Policy Management from Harvard University and the other in School Leadership from Wilmington College. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Delaware.
His honors include the Excellence in Education Award and the Chairman’s Award, both from the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce; the John T. Stephens Fellowship from Harvard University; and the Raymond Heim Award from the University of Delaware.
