Man, 36, Killed in Shootout With Police After Chase

Police said officers fatally shot a 36-year-old man during a shootout after a chase ended in Dallas early Tuesday morning.

Forney police said they responded to a suspicious person call in the 750 block of Pinson Road just after 4 a.m. and found a man matching the call's description. When the man — later identified as Gary Wayne Jones — saw police, he drove away.

Officers followed Jones, who police said was disregarding stop signs and stop lights, west on U.S. 80 at a high rate of speed.

Shortly after, Mesquite police and Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies joined the pursuit. Police said the agencies chased the vehicle into Dallas.

At some point during the chase, two females exited the vehicle. Police said they took them into custody. [[365742811,C]]

Forney and Mesquite police officers returned fire at Jones, striking and killing him, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.
