Forney High School Softball Player, 14, Killed in Vehicle Accident

Vigil scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.

A 14-year-old Forney High School softball player was killed in a crash Tuesday night, authorities say.

Police said Emily Galiano was accidentally run over in the 6400 block of Hollow Creek Drive at about 8 p.m. According to inForney.com, the team was leaving dinner when she was struck.

Galiano was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to authorities. She was later pronounced deceased.

"It's a very tragic accident," Kaufman County Sheriff's Office's Jolie Stewart told inForney.com.

The softball team was scheduled to play in the UIL Texas 5A Region 2 semifinals Wednesday; the game has been postponed.

Forney Independent School District officials released the following statement:

On Tuesday evening, May 16, our Forney ISD family suffered a great loss. One of our students from Forney High School passed away from injuries suffered in unfortunate incident involving a vehicle. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the family during this very difficult time.

A prayer vigil was held for students and staff at Forney High School this morning and there will be additional counselors at the school today and throughout the remainder of the week.

The Forney High School softball playoff game scheduled for tonight against Mansfield Lakeridge has been postponed. A new date and time has not been set at this time.

Grief counselors will be available at the school, according to officials.
