Former Texas Tech Player Arrested On Felony Burglary Charge

Records show one of three Texas Tech football players kicked off the team earlier this month has been arrested on a felony burglary charge.

Jail records show 20-year-old Robert James Castaneda was arrested Friday on a charge of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Castaneda would have been a sophomore backup offensive lineman.

Lubbock County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bryan Taylor had no additional information about what led to the arrest.

Jail records didn't list attorney information for Castaneda. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

On May 5, Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury kicked Castaneda off the team for "failure to uphold student-athlete expectations."

Also dismissed that day were Dakota Allen, a sophomore linebacker, and Trace Ellison, a redshirt freshman tackle.
