Former Maypearl Police Chief Expected to Face New Charges

New sexual assault charges are expected against the former Maypearl police chief, officials say.

Kevin Coffey is already behind bars charged with several counts, including sexual assault of a child.

Now, prosecutors say more charges are coming in a different case.

Coffey is expected to be served with warrants for sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child in a Johnson County incident from 15 years ago.

Prosecutors say at the time of the alleged incident Coffey was a police officer in Grandview and the alleged victim was a teenage girl.

That information came out during a hearing Tuesday as Coffey's lawyers tried to convince a judge to reduce his bond. The judge denied that request.

Coffey remains in the Ellis County Jail in lieu of a $350,000 bond.
