A Keller woman who first claimed an intruder killed her husband and then claimed he committed suicide was indicted Wednesday in his death.
Michele Williams, 43, is accused of murder, filing a false police report and tampering with evidence -- specifically, cleaning her dead husband's hand, moving his body and also cleaning a gun.
When Williams first called 911 after the shooting on Oct. 13, 2011, she claimed an intruder had broken into the upscale home, shot her husband, Greg, and beat her.
But investigators doubted her story, police said.
The latest news from around North Texas.
After several hours of questioning, Michele Williams admitted she staged the crime, using a screwdriver to pry open her door and even hitting herself in the head with a wrench, police said.
She then claimed her husband had committed suicide and said she made up the intruder story so their young daughter wouldn't know, police said.
Greg Williams' former wife, Cathy, told NBC 5 in January that she was suspicious of Michele Williams' story from the beginning.
"What I hope will happen to her is that she will admit what she's done and don't put the family through any more grief," Cathy Williams said.
She said she believed the motive had to do with money and that Michele Williams had always been "a working stiff, struggling to get by -- single mother, three kids."
"She found a guy who had a lot of money, and she's like, 'Hmmm,'" Cathy Williams said.
Michele Williams remains free on bond and now lives in Flower Mound.
A judge imposed a gag order so nobody connected to the case can talk publicly now.
