Former Fort Worth Councilwoman Cathy Hirt & Husband Dead After Crash

Former Fort Worth Councilwoman Cathy Hirt was killed alongside her husband, Darrell, in a car crash Friday night while vacationing in Europe, former Councilman Joel Burns confirmed Saturday.

In a statement, Burns remembered Hirt's leadership:

"I can't imagine the sense of loss felt by Cathy and Darrell's family, but I do feel the very real loss all of us in Fort Worth know in the loss of Cathy's civic leadership, I've spoken with both my predecessor Wendy Davis and successor Ann Zadeh tonight and we are honored to have shared a legacy with Cathy of representing Fort Worth and District 9 and to have followed in her example of leadership. Fort Worth has lost so much this week and our hearts go out to Cathy and Darrell's many family and friends and those touched by her work."

Hirt oversaw District 9 before leading an aggressive campaign to be Mayor of Fort Worth.

According to Burns, Hirt and her husband were killed in a taxi accident while traveling in Hungary.
