Former Baylor Coach Art Briles Says He Misses Football, Expects To Have New Job By End of Year

Art Briles visited Cowboys camp and met the media to discuss his current situation, fallout from Baylor.

Art Briles is having a tough time with unemployment. The former Baylor head coach visited Cowboys training camp on Tuesday, which is his fifth NFL camp this month. He's catching up with former players, networking and trying to be near a football field as he tries to rebuild his image.

Briles was forthcoming with his first real meeting with the media since his scandal at Baylor, which included the athletic department not responding to victims who accused football players of sexual abuse.

The former coach expected to stay at Baylor for the remainder of his coaching career. The split is still fresh and Briles is still in disbelief that he's not around football in Waco.

"I'm dumfounded and trying to process everything as it goes, but it is what it is. Reality is reality. So what I have to do is redefine myself and start a new chapter and that's what I'm doing," said the former Baylor coach.

Briles is ready to coach and believes he'll have a new job by the end of the year. Many programs looking for a new head coach at that time won't have him on the list considering what happened at Baylor.

"I know what I am, and I know who I've been for 60 years. People may doubt what you say, but believe what you do and I've always lived my life in a righteous manner," said Briles.

If he wants a new job in coaching, he'll have to do things differently when it comes to off the field matters. Briles was asked what he learned going through the scandal at Baylor.

"I'm going to make sure I have policies in place that are protective of everybody, students first and foremost and then administrators and coaches. I've always been grateful for every chance I've been given to coach so that's never been an issue, but coming out now and being on the field it surely  makes you appreciate it even more because it's hard," said Briles.

Briles said the day will come when he'll explain in more detail what happened in what went wrong.
