Flu-Related Deaths Continue as Number of Cases Drop

The number of new flu cases continues to drop across North Texas, but health officials are still reporting flu-related deaths.

“I think you’re going to see deaths reported just like any other virus, throughout the next several weeks into next month,” said Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services.

In all, 68 flu deaths have now been reported across North Texas.

Denton County reported another death Tuesday, for a total of 8 this season, and Tarrant County has also recorded 8 deaths.

Dallas County, which unlike surrounding counties is tracking both children and adult flu deaths, has now recorded 43 deaths.

“Hopefully these numbers will motivate Dallas County residents to get the flu shot early,” said Thompson.

Health officials said it is not too late to get a flu shot for this season, which could last through April.
