Fire Destroys Units at DeSoto Apartment Complex

An overnight fire destroyed three residences at the Windsong Place Apartments in DeSoto Thursday.

Firefighters were called to the apartment complex in the 1100 block of East Wintergreen Road twice in less than 24 hours.

DeSoto firefighters were called to the apartments for a kitchen fire at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters put that fire out, then around 12:30 a.m. there was a report of another fire in the same building.

Residents went door-to-door getting everyone out.

"A guy came up and knocked on my door and woke me up and he told me to come out because the apartment was on fire. I grabbed by puppy and my robe and ran out," said resident Francis Handy.

No one was injured, though eight residences were either damaged or destroyed by the fire.

All of the displaced residents are staying with family members.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Tarrant County Arson Task Force with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
