Fire Destroys Tarrant County Gun Shop, Indoor Range

A Tarrant County gun shop and indoor gun range appears to be a total loss after catching fire Saturday.

Emergency crews responded to the On Target gun range, along U.S. Highway 377 just south of Benbrook around noon on Saturday.

Witnesses reported hearing ammunition exploding in the building due to the fire.

There are no reports of injuries.

"I got a phone call from an individual who noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe of the rifle range," said owner Jack Wilson. "Around that same time, somebody said we have a fire. There was some real heavy smoke starting to fill the area."

Wilson says between 30-35 people were inside. Everyone evacuated the building in two minutes.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting the Tarrant County Fire Marshal's Office with the investigation.

The ATF tells NBC 5 it's typical for their agents to assist with fire investigations when it involves a commercial building or a large amount of firearms.
