The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. at the Vistana apartments in the 1400 block of Weiler Boulevard, near Interstate 30 and Loop 820 in East Fort Worth.

"It was actually really terrifying," said apartment resident Josue Sanchez. "Shortly after we came outside, the fire department showed up and they were already bringing their hoses and everything. So if it wasn't for them, everything would probably be gone."

A fire at the Vistana apartment complex in Fort Worth forced more than a dozen people from their homes early Monday morning.

The fire started in a vacant first floor unit at the complex and arson investigators are on the scene.

First responders helped one person who was treated for smoke inhalation.

"Everybody's apartment was black because the smoke kept coming through the vents, and it was smoking everybody out," said resident Thyee McGruder.

The fire was put out quickly but not before four units were damaged and 12 to 15 people were forced from their homes. The American Red Cross is helping displaced residents.
