Dallas police say it appears a fight started a deadly chain of events early Wednesday morning.
Investigators say several people were involved in an altercation at Hatcher Street and Malcolm X Boulevard. Witnesses tell police that victim Kimothy Pace, 27, got into his car to get away and bullets started flying. Pace drove a few blocks before slamming into a tree on the 2600-block of Lawrence Street.
Paramedics arrived at the scene at about 1 a.m. and discovered Pace had been shot in the chest. The gunshot caused Pace to lose control of his car and crash into the tree.
Pace died about an hour and a half after paramedics arrived, at the hospital.
Investigators discovered a shell casing from a shotgun and believe a shotgun was used to kill Pace.
Arrest records show Pace has a criminal history of burglary, theft and forgery.
Authorities continue to search for the gunman.
