The FBI is hosting a summit Tuesday in Dallas to speak with religious leaders about security, and ensuring the area's churches, mosques and synagogues are safe.
Katrina Berger, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations, said the goal is to provide faith-based leaders with basic training tools to escape and survive an active-shooter situation.
"Our places of worship and their congregations are especially vulnerable to be targeted by these horrific acts," she said.
North Texans may remember the shooting at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Seven people died when a gunman stormed their church in September 1999.
Wedgwood is not taking part in the event Tuesday, but the groups who are said they see the summit as an important step toward keeping their members safe when they gather to share their beliefs.
The meeting is closed to the public and the media.
