Father, Kids Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide Identified

The identities of two children believed to have been fatally shot by their father before he killed himself have been identified.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the deceased children as 9-year-old Luke Dawson and 5-year-old Aubrey Dawson.

Both children were at home Saturday morning with their mother and father when they were shot in the head and chest with a shotgun, according to the medical examiner's report.

The medical examiner said the father of the children, 36-year-old Christopher Dawson, died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Dawson was a surgeon at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Waxahachie and was employed there from Sept. 4 to Oct. 20. Hospital officials didn't comment on why Dawson left.

North Richland Hills police said the mother of the children, who called to report the shooting at about 7:15 a.m., was at home at the time of the shooting and was not injured.

Neighbors told NBC 5 the family recently moved into the home; police said they have no record of any prior calls to the home involving the family.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
