Fatal Crash Shuts Down SH 121 in Collin County

Thursday's crash was the 10th deadly crash in three years on seven-mile stretch of road in Collin County

One person was killed in a crash at state Highway 121 and Farm-to-Market Road 455 in Collin County on Thursday afternoon, Anna police said.

Sgt. Jeff Caponera said the road was shut down in the area after the deadly three-vehicle crash.

A Dodge Durango that was going north on SH 121 drifted into oncoming traffic at about 1:30 p.m. It collided head-on with a box truck and then a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Caponera said the woman driving the Durango was killed in the crash. Her 10-year-old daughter, who was also in the sport utility vehicle, sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Tahoe was injured and taken by helicopter to Plano Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, Caponera said. Two children in the Tahoe were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the box truck, who had minor injuries, was treated at the scene and released.

Caponera said the collision happened at the same location as another fatal crash on May 28. Before that, a similar car crash occurred April 15.

"The fatality last week was just down the hill, less than half a mile from where we're at right now, so this is just a dangerous roadway," he said.

NBC 5's Catherine Ross contributed to this report.
