Fans Flock to New Chick-fil-A for Free Food

The first 100 fans in line received free Chick-fil-A for a year

It was a fowl occasion at a new Dallas Chick-fil-A Thursday morning.

Any time the restaurant opens a new location, Chick-fil-A promises lucky chicken fans free food for a year if they can be the one of the first 100 to line up outside the door.

Fans flocked to a new Chick-fil-A in Dallas at Prestonwood Town Center beginning Wednesday afternoon. By 6:40 p.m., 100 people had officially lined up outside the restaurant, according to Cindi Pickett of CP Communications. They were nine hours early to the opening.

“Whenever we find [a Chick-fil-A] that's within our ZIP code that we can do, then we do it,” chicken aficionado Kimberley Williams said.

After the magic number 100 had been reached, the celebration began.

“There was a mean dance contest, water balloon tosses, the Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide,” Pickett said.

The party went on until about 9 p.m. when the chicken lovers were given Ice Dreams and sent back to their tents awaiting an early wake-up call, Pickett said. At 5:15 a.m. Thursday, people awoke to receive their official numbers and await their prizes.

One fan, Matt Roig, took off work to try and get free chicken.

“It's kind of fun. You come out and you get away from work,” he said. “I'm taking a PTO day from work to come out and camp out for some free Chick-fil-A.”

The new Chick-fil-A in Dallas is the 30th location in the DFW area and the second to open in five weeks, Pickett said. It is located at Montfort Drive and Belt Line Road and is officially open for business.

Looks like the phrase “eat more chicken” just took on a new meaning for the lucky 100 fans.
