A former March of Dimes executive in South Texas has been charged with stealing more than $61,000 in donations.
The Monitor newspaper reported Tuesday that Luis Noe Garcia of Edinburg was fired last March after an internal audit revealed missing funds.
A tip led to the financial review and Garcia, who was responsible for helping raise money for the March of Dimes from Laredo to Brownsville.
A criminal complaint says Garcia, who was arrested Friday on felony theft charges, funneled the money into his personal bank account over four years.
Garcia was released from jail after posting $10,000 bond. He declined comment Tuesday.
