Ex-Arlington Police Officer Sentenced to Year in Prison

A former North Texas police officer has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for using law enforcement databases give his steroids dealer a tip off that he was under surveillance by law enforcement.

U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldana says 45-year-old Thomas Kantzos was sentenced Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in October to an indictment charging exceeding access to a protected computer. Arlington police fired him after his June arrest.

Prosecutors say when the steroids dealer believed he was being monitored by law enforcement, he asked Kantzos to run a license plate number. Kantzos relayed his findings to the dealer, who recognized the vehicle owner as a law enforcement officer.

Prosecutors say Kantzos had purchased anabolic steroids from the dealer for himself and for other officers.
