According to Houston NBC affiliate KPRC, deputies received a tip that Dominic Potter, 38, was seen inside the store in Madisonville at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said Potter escaped through an open gate while taking out the garbage at the Galveston County Jail Monday night. He was in jail on a charge of forgery of a government document and other parole violations, the report said.

He also faces theft charges in Tarrant County, officials said.

Potter was a kitchen worker at the jail and was not considered to be a violent offender, which made him eligible for work.

It's not clear where Potter is heading. Police said if you see Potter, do not approach him and contact authorities.

Madisonville is about 170 miles southeast of Fort Worth.
