An endangered ocelot has been found dead near a South Texas road and game wardens believe the rare animal was hit by a vehicle.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department on Tuesday reported the animal was killed near Arroyo City.
Agency officials say the large male ocelot apparently was struck Monday night by a vehicle on Farm-to-Market Road 2925. A caller reported the incident. Further details on the death weren't immediately available.
Arroyo City is near the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge, home to about a dozen of the endangered cats.
Work continues on General Brant Road, part of a restoration project adding passageways under the roadway for use by ocelots.
