A petition has been created to remove the Confederate statue from the Ellis County Courthouse.
The petition to the Ellis County Commissioners Court was created by Kelly Blackburn and currently has over 1,100 signatures.
This Confederate statue was erected at the Ellis County Courthouse in 1912.
According to Blackburn, the statue should be taken down because it is "a painful reminder of hatred and division."
