Driver Shot, Deputy's Foot Run Over in South Dallas

A Dallas County sheriff's deputy shot a man who ran over his foot during a traffic stop Wednesday in South Dallas, officials say.

The incident took place near the intersection of Lagow and Marshall streets, where deputies pulled over a driver — later identified as 41-year-old Michael Wayne Morgan — believed to have outstanding warrants.

As the deputies approached the vehicle with their guns drawn, authorities said Morgan accelerated and drove over a deputy's foot. The deputy then fired his weapon, striking Morgan at least once.

Morgan crashed into a nearby fence, exited the vehicle and then collapsed. He was hospitalized and is expected to recover.

The officer was checked out at the scene and is OK.

Further details were not immediately available.

Morgan has been remotely booked into the Dallas County Jail and remains at Baylor University Medical Center as of Thursday morning.
