A police chase in Houston ended with the driver shot and killed by police officers after a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.
Authorities say the chase began when police tried to pull over the driver for "suspicious activity," including unsafe lane changes.
The driver evaded stop sticks on the freeway, exited the highway through a grassy shoulder and drove through a parking lot before driving down a city street and crashing into at least three cars at a busy intersection.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating. A spokesman for the office, Deputy Thomas Gilliland, said that after the chase, two Houston police officers told the suspect to show his hands, but as they approached his car he reached back into his vehicle. Suspecting that he was reaching for a weapon, both officers opened fire multiple times, killing the man.
Neither officer was hurt.
A statement from the Sheriff's Office didn't say if a weapon was found.
The driver of one of the cars hit during the chase was taken to the hospital in good condition, the other driver was treated and released at the scene according to KPRC-TV.
