Driver Charged in Death of Good Samaritan in Houston

A Houston man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after his car struck and killed a good Samaritan who stopped to help another motorist.

Harris County criminal court records show 26-year-old Adrian Hernandez was being held Monday on $100,000 bond. Online records do not list an attorney to speak for Hernandez, who was arrested following Sunday night's accident on U.S. 59.

Investigators say the 31-year-old victim was dead at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released.

Houston police say Hernandez was driving a car that hit a pickup truck, then the car crossed several lanes of traffic and struck the victim. The man was standing outside of his vehicle along the freeway shoulder assisting a disabled motorist.

Police say Hernandez was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
