University spokeswoman Amanda Simpson said the fire broke out at the TWU Select apartments at Lone Star Apartments in the 600 block Texas Street at about 3:45 a.m.

The off-campus apartments housed 45 upperclassmen, all but one of whom have been accounted for. Authorities said they are working to contact the remaining student.

Denton firefighters said they swept the building and no injuries have been reported.

The fire affected about a third of the building, according to Simpson. The entire building also sustained water damage from sprinklers. TWU junior Adrianna Fricks said she was only able to save her child's baby book and a picture of her dad

"They mean the world to me. I ran back in the building to get them while it was on fire," she said. "It really hurts to know we worked so hard to get here and we watched everything get destroyed in a matter of seconds."

University officials said they are accommodating the displaced students at the TWU Student Union. The Red Cross also responded to assist.

NBC 5's Johnny Archer contributed to this report.
