Dog Shot by Austin Constable

Constable Deputy was serving an eviction notice when the pit bull charged at him

Officials say a Travis County constable fatally shot a dog in Austin after it lunged at him.

Lt. Jeff Parker with Travis County Constables' Precinct 2 says Senior Deputy Lawrence Edwards will be off his regular duties pending the initial investigation into the Thursday afternoon incident.

Parker says Edwards was serving an eviction notice at an Austin home when the unleased pit bull charged at him in an aggressive manner.

Parker says Edwards then shot once at the dog. He says Edwards is a dog lover and was upset about shooting it.

The canine's owner, who wasn't the one being served the eviction notice, says he came out after hearing a gun shot. He says he loved his dog, Donnie, like a child and was distraught over the shooting.
