DISD to Vote on New Financial Rules Thursday

New rules to prohibit vendors with ties to trustees

After a wave of layoffs earlier this month, trustees with the Dallas Independent School District will vote on new rules concerning their financial dealings with the district.

The new rules could prohibit the district from using vendors with financial ties to the trustees.

The ban also applies to the trustees closest relatives, however current contracts may remain uneffected.

While trustees are voting on the new policy, outraged parents, students and DISD staff will be protesting outside.

The protesters are expected to be focused on DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa who they said failed the school system and needs to be held accountable.

Protesters said if Hinojosa is responsible for the multmillion-dollar budget shortfall then he should be fired and they are hoping that their presence at the meeting will have an impact on the trustees.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at DISD headquarters.
