D/FW Airport Kicks Off 2015 NFL Season With Guinness Record

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport kicked off the NFL season a little early Thursday afternoon by having more than 700 people sign an inflatable football -- breaking a Guinness record.

The Guinness World Records for “Most Signatures On a Piece of Sports Memorabilia” was broken at exactly 2:30 p.m. at D/FW’s Terminal A with 516 signatures, and a new record was set with 702 signatures on a customized enormous inflated football," officials said.

A Guinness official was on hand to certify the world record, the airport's first.

Travelers stopped to sign the inflatable ball outside the Dallas Cowboys Club, a restaurant in Terminal A that opened to the public in July that offers Texas-inspired cuisine in sports bar, stadium-shaped setting.

In addition to breaking the record, the airport and Pepsi held a tailgate party in Terminal A offering travelers a unique chance to show off their running back skills for the chance to win a trip to the big game, signed helmets, gift cards, and more.

The Pepsi Pre-Flight Drills interactive game will remain stationed inside Terminal A at Gates A12 and B29 making it accessible to travelers now through Oct. 10.

“We pride ourselves in offering passengers a fun, unique and memorable experience while traveling through DFW Airport,” said Mazhar Butt, senior vice president at DFW Airport. “Our tailgate party to kick off this year’s football season, combined with the rare opportunity to be part of breaking a Guinness World Records title, is another example of our commitment to providing an unique and interactive customer experience.”

The NFL season kicks off Thursday night on NBC 5 when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the New England Patriots. The Cowboys and New York Giants will play Sunday night on NBC 5 with coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
