Developer Puts Contract on Historic Dallas Building

One of the oldest buildings in Dallas, an abandoned high school that's now more than 100 years old, could receive a breath of new life soon.

Dallas city officials said building at 2214 Bryan Street. has undergone many name changes during its 107 years before officially closing in 1995.

Most recently called Dallas High School, the building is often referred to by its most notable name, Crozier Technical High School. Other names it went by include Main High School, Bryan Street High School, Dallas Tech High School and Business and Management Magnet Center.

"I've wondered the history on it many times," Dallas resident Linda Keto said. "Why it's boarded up after all these years."

John Crawford, CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., said developer Jack Matthews put a contract on the site, which should be finalized within the next few months.

Crawford said he's optimistic that Matthews, who oversaw the development of the Omni Dallas Hotel, South Side on Lamar apartments and Gilley's Dallas, will make the most of the location.

"If anybody can develop that site, I'm positive Jack Matthews can do that," Crawford said. "We want to see those be redeveloped and restored rather than decay," he said.
