The day the Dallas Cowboys might have been dreading has reportedly arrived.
ESPN's Ed Werder reported Wednesday morning that quarterback Tony Romo has been cleared by doctors. That means the decision to let Romo play — and whether he or rookie Dak Prescott will be the starter — is in the hands of the team's coaching staff.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett declined to comment on the issue during a news conference Wednesday morning.
Garrett said Romo is scheduled to quarterback the scout team in practice this week. The decision on whether to activate Romo for Sunday's game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh likely won't be made until the weekend.
Romo has been out since injuring his back during a preseason game in Seattle. in his absence, Prescott has led the Cowboys to a conference-best 7-1 record.
The team has not made an announcement on who the starter will be once Romo returns.
