Death Penalty Sought in Bryan Slaying of Woman, Father

A man who served time for robbery could face execution if convicted of killing a Central Texas woman and her father just days after leaving prison.

The Eagle newspaper reported Thursday that prosecutors in Brazos County are seeking the death penalty against Dennis Wayne Brown III. The 35-year-old Madisonville man was indicted last May on charges of capital murder, arson, burglary and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Records show Brown was freed from prison April 4 after serving 15 years for aggravated robbery.

The bodies of 32-year-old Noel Devin and 63-year-old Thomas "Mac" Devin were discovered April 7 in the rubble of her burned house. Both had been stabbed.

Brown was arrested at a motel where the woman's stolen SUV was found.

No trial date has been set.
