Daycare Owner Defends Business Over Bruised Baby Photos

A Richardson daycare owner is defending her life's work after a boy was injured at the place she owns.

Cindy Knoll, at Armadillos to Zebras daycare, said she's received hundreds of angry calls and messages since photos of a bruised baby boy went viral online.

Some say the bruising looks like a hand print.

"There have been threats on my life and my family's life, and it's really heartbreaking that this is happening to everybody involved," Knoll said.

The backlash began when 21-year-old Elizabeth O'Rear posted pictures of her 1-year-old son Dakota on Facebook.

The photos showing red marks on Dakota's face had been shared nearly 100,000 times as of Thursday night.

O'Rear said the injuries appeared when she picked up Dakota from the daycare on Monday. They were still visible when NBC 5 visited the family at their Richardson home on Wednesday.

An incident report stated he "fell hitting his head on a toy."

"I wasn't there, but I'm sure that the correct authorities will find out," Knoll said.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is investigating. The investigation could take up to 30 days.

Knoll said the caregiver involved in the incident is on administrative leave. She said the caregiver had been an employee for about three months.
