Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez soundly defeated her Republican challenger Lowell Cannaday on Election Night.
Sheriff Valdez celebrated her victory at her block party in Dallas Tuesday night while Cannaday, the former Irving police chief, greeted his supporters at Republican party headquarters.
The two fought a tough battle over the direction of the Sheriff's Department and the Dallas County Jail, which has failed state inspections during Sheriff Valdez's time in office.
Sheriff Valdez talked about the jail situation, saying continuing to improve that facility will be one of her top priorities in her next term.
