Dallas School Helps Family of Student Killed

L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School administrators have started an online fundraiser to help with expenses for a family of a student killed in March.

Ning Et, 7, and her stepmother were walking in the crosswalk at Pineland Drive and Fair Oaks Avenue on March 30 when a Ford Expedition turning onto Fair Oaks struck them both, police said.

The child was pronounced deceased, and her stepmother was transported to the hospital. The stepmother has since been released.

Investigators said the driver of the Expedition remained at the scene, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

Hotchkiss Principal Cecelia Kriner said Ning’s father came to the school to share the news.

“We were speechless,” said Kriner.

First grade students wrote cards that were read at Ning’s funeral services on Saturday.

Ning’s younger brother is a pre-kindergarten student at Hotchkiss Elementary.

The family has dealt with tragedy before. Ning’s mother was killed four years ago, soon after the family came to the United States from Burma as refugees.

“I hope Dad will find some comfort in knowing that we loved and we cared and we were so sorry that he had experienced so much loss,” said Kriner.

The school has started an online fundraiser for the family where you can help.
