Dallas Police Working to Stop Driveway Robbers

A man and woman have been taken into custody for questioning in connection with at least one driveway robbery in Dallas.

The latest robbery happened Thursday on N. Montclair Avenue.

Police sources told NBC 5 that a silver sport utility vehicle with license plates from Louisiana was pulled over. A woman was seen throwing a stolen wallet from the passenger side window, according to police sources. A butcher knife was found in a woman's purse and a mask of some sort was found on the floorboard of the car, police sources said.

On Wednesday, a Dallas homeowner was robbed while in their own driveway in the 3200 block of Kiest Hill Drive.

The homeowner told police a masked, armed robber held him up in the driveway on the backside of the house.

Earlier this week, victim Chris Kuhner told NBC 5 his attacker jumped into a navy SUV after he managed to fight off the robber.

"I was right up in his face and I was closer to him than the gun was. I put my hand on his gun arm, at that point he got nervous and turned around and ran off," said Kuhner.

During a news conference Thursday, Dallas detectives said they believe the string of driveway robberies is the work of two or possibly three robbery rings.  Police said they now believe two dozen driveway robberies may be connected and they have assigned two detectives to work specifically on these cases.

Through Thursday, police have already made two arrests in armed driveway robberies, but said that because of the differences in each case the robberies aren't the work of just one person.

Victims have reported the robber is masked, or sometimes wears a black, hooded sweatshirt, and is armed with either a gun or a knife. Victims have also reported the robber as white, black and Latino male; in some cases the robber was said to be female.

Dallas police said they are working with three vehicle descriptions, with a silver SUV, a Saturn VUE, being the most reliable. They have also received reports of a white or cream-colored Chrysler 200, a white Honda and a dark-colored sedan.

Police said all but three of the victims have been female and they range in age from 18- to 78-years-old.

Dallas police are warning residents to always be alert and aware of your surroundings and that people should call 911 if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood. Additionally, rewards of $5,000 each are being offered by Crime Stoppers and Oak Farms Dairy for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the cases. Tipsters can call 214-373-TIPS or 214-671-3584 with information.
