Dallas Officer Talks Man Off Roof, Ends Standoff

Dallas police arrested a man after a standoff on the roof of a Jack in the Box in Oak Cliff Friday morning.

Police said they were trying to serve felony warrants to a man at the Jack in the Box in the 700 block of R.L. Thornton Freeway. When officers surrounded the man, he fled to the roof.

The man spent nearly two hours on the roof, making frequent calls to his family and threatening to jump. Dallas Police Department Lt. Juan Salas went onto the roof to try to talk and the man off the ledge.

"I was telling this person here who was up on the ledge that life has its ups and downs, but there are always solutions to the problems," Salas said. "I was able to remind him of the important things."

Salas eventually connected with the man, reminding him of his children. The man then came down without resistance.

"We're here to protect and serve and save lives," Salas said. "We do take crisis intervention classes. I think the training kicked in."
