Dallas North Tollway Delays Worse Than Expected

The North Texas Tollway Authority said the full road closure of the Dallas North Tollway between Kellery Springs and Belt Line roads over the weekend caused heavier than anticipated traffic.

To ease the traffic backups the NTTA closed several southbound ramps including those from the President George Bush Turnpike.

Drivers are asked "seek alternate routes, such as Preston or Midway roads to help reduce traffic along the Tollway in the area," the NTTA said in a news release.

The road closures were planned weeks ago so that crews could demolish two toll plazas for the NTTA's switch to a cashless toll road.

"Once the construction is done, you'll have three open lanes all the way from the North suburbs all the way to downtown Dallas," said Christine Connelly with the NTTA.

The NTTA expects to open one lane of the DNT in each direction Sunday evening, and by Monday morning rush hour three lanes in each direction are expected to be open. TollTag and ZipCash customers will be able to use all three lanes.
