The city of Dallas is considering a new name for the Continental Bridge hike and bike trail over the Trinity River. It would be called the Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge.
Kirk was the first African-American mayor of Dallas. He also served as U.S. trade representative under President Barack Obama.
A memo to council members on Saturday said Kirk pushed the Trinity River Project for many years and renaming the former roadway next to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge would be a fitting tribute.
A Dallas city council committee will discuss the idea on Monday, May 9.
