Dallas Mandates Unpaid Days Off Due to Budget Crisis

Some Dallas city employees are going to end up taking the hit for a huge budget deficit.

Dallas is forcing all employees, except police and firefighters, to take up to two unpaid days off by extending their 4th of July and Labor Day holidays.

On top of the furloughs, Dallas is delaying a senior homestead tax exemption, raising parking rates and also doing away with police hiring bonuses which were topping out at $10,000 per hire.

The measures will save about $12 million of the $100 million shortfall.
