Dallas firefighter Dameon Burcie is used to saving lives, but now the 13-year veteran of the department is fighting to save his son.
Burcie's 3 year-old son Dyrk, was diagnosed with liver cancer in March that has since spread to his lungs.
The family has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on treatment, including chemotherapy. Dyrk will eventually need a liver transplant.
When fellow firefighters got news of the illness, the department's baseball team, known as the "Heat" jumped in to help.
The team organized a charity baseball double header against the New York Police Department baseball team to raise money for the family's mounting medical bills.
"When we feel it's a charity that's worth going down to play, we don't hesitate," said Jose Vasquez, manager of NYPD's baseball team. "My guys take this money out of their own pockets to come down here and play so we do it out of heart."
"He's in a good mood. He's excited to get out and throw the first pitch," said Burcie.

Dyrk drew cheers after he threw out the first pitch at the game.
More than 200 fans showed up to support the cause.
The Frisco Roughriders donated their stadium to the teams and pledged to donate part of their ticket sales of some future games.
More than $10,000 was raised for the family.
"Thanks doesn't say enough. This goes way beyond words," said Burcie.
