A neighborhood in Northeast Dallas is a bit more beautiful after an unsightly home was demolished on Tuesday.
The home was located at 2812 Materhorn Drive in the Casa View Community.
Dallas city officials say it been a problem for more than a decade.
Don Almquist, who had lived next to the home for four years, has been working with city officials for three years to get it torn down.
"It is great," said Almquist. "It has allowed people to come back outside and enjoy life. The house has been in disrepair. It's just been a nuisance."
This case was a little unique because the homeowner still lived at the property.
"This was a situation where the person who owned the house failed to pay their taxes, so we successfully foreclosed on the owner for this specific structure," said Dallas community prosecutor Amanda Chase. "After that the owner would not leave the structure, so we had to asked the district court for permission to remove all the property, and the person from the structure through rid of possession."

A crews from RNDI Companies, Inc spent four days gutting the house before it was demolished.
"I hope we continue doing this," said RNDI Companies, Inc president Diana Cross. "Changing the city to a better place."
Chase encourages anyone with a similar problem in their neighborhood to act.
"If they have code issues they should definitely report those to 311," said Chase, "That is very important. That is the way to get the process started."
For Almquist, this is a three year journey that finally has a happy ending.
"Hallelujah, it's over," he said.
City officials will sell the lot once all the debris is removed.
