The Dallas Cowboys have cut wide receiver Lucky Whitehead, according to a team spokesman.
Whitehead was arrested for petty theft last month in Virginia, according to multiple reports.
The Prince William County Police Department has told multiple outlets that he was arrested on June 22, at a Wawa convenience store, after an employee noticed he tried to leave the store without paying for some items.
Whitehead failed to appear for his arraignment for the incident on July 6, which led to a subsequent charge, according to police records.
David Rich, Whitehead's agent, told ESPN that Whitehead did not commit the crime and wasn't even in Virginia when the theft happened. Rich says the charges are due to an identity mix-up.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told NFL.com he found out about the wide receiver's arrest during practice Monday. He said the team is "gathering information and will respond accordingly."
Whitehead has a court date scheduled for Aug. 10, according to police records.
