Dallas Couple Celebrates Surprise Delivery on Eclipse Day

A North Texas couple received a surprise delivery just as the celestial display got underway in DFW. A delivery that easily managed to eclipse Monday’s momentous event.

Nicole Esquino’s gaze wasn’t on the sun Monday, she couldn’t stop looking down at her unexpected delivery.

“She’s just so darn cute,” she said. “She’s got cute little lips though. She’s got ears like my husband.”

The first timer’s due date wasn’t for a while.

“I was supposed to go for three weeks and five more days,” said Esquino.

She and husband Victor thought they would watch the partial eclipse like everyone else.

“We were going to go look at it when it was time to go and look,” she said.

Instead, they found themselves in labor at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

“Around Noon, we started pushing,” she said with a smile.

In the meantime, North Texans eagerly awaited the astronomical event.

“Our nurse was taking pictures outside and was telling us what was going on,” she said.

Baby Esquino was born at 12:46 p.m.

“We missed the main event but that’s OK,” she said. “We had our own main event going on.”

Then came the choosing the baby’s name.

“We couldn’t pick a middle name so we started talking about it and said it’s the solar eclipse, what if we could find something,” said Esquino.

“Soleil stuck out,” said Victor Esquino.

“Soleil, which is French for the sun, so we were like yeah it fits. It’s a special day and we weren’t expecting this to happen,” she said.

Fiona Soleil Esquino.

“She decided that,” said Esquino. “Wasn’t part of our plan, but we’re went with it.”

A name fit for the bright-eyed baby girl.
