A Dallas County sheriff's deputy surrendered Tuesday on a misdemeanor theft charge, authorities say.
Deputy Darrell Moore was accused of theft over $50 but under $500 in an arrest warrant obtained by the Garland Police Department, the sheriff's office said.
Moore, hired by the department in 1989, was placed on restricted duty pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal administrative investigation.
Further details on the case were not released.
"All people are entitled to due process and we need to allow that process to continue for Darrell Moore. We take this matter very seriously and a full investigation is under way," Sheriff Lupe Valdez said in a statement released Tuesday.
