Dallas County Jail Employee Arrested, Booked at Jail Where She Worked

A Dallas County Sheriff's Department employee was arrested Tuesday after being accused of stealing a firearm

A Dallas County Sheriff’s Department employee was arrested and booked at the same jail where she worked, after being accused of stealing a firearm.

Katenia Johnson, who has been working in the property vault of the Dallas County Jail for 14 years, is accused of stealing a handgun that was originally issued to an academy cadet.

The sheriff’s department said that once the cadet left the academy, his gun was turned over to Johnson. Later, the weapon was found in a pawn shop — under Johnson’s name.

The department said that the theft apparently “occurred at her previous post at the Training Academy,” where she was a clerk before her job in the Dallas County Jail.

Johnson was booked at that same jail and was later released on a $1,500 bond. The department said that the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Johnson’s case is also being investigated by internal affairs.
